Description
The Ndebele people are famous for their beadwork and the painting of their homes in bright geometric colors. The importation of glass beads into Southern Africa has a long history and the beads have become an intricate part of Ndebele culture, used to recognize important passages in Ndebele life.
The intricately beaded apron was part of a wedding ceremony and conferred beauty, wealth and status of the bride. The beaded work is attached to cowhide and is truly a work of art.
