What an exciting month September was. The Opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture electrified the city and we were thrilled to meet visitors from near and far who came uptown to visit Zawadi. It was thrilling to see local artists such as Francine Haskins (dolls) and Brenda Winston of Damali clothing, as well as Linda White (author of Back There, Then) featured in the Museum.
Linda White had a stunning exhibit of photos of 20th century African Americans found in her Aunt’s house in Washingtion here at Zawadi in 2006. (This exhibit was featured in the Washington Post.) We are excited to be hosting Linda on November 18th (2-5pm) for an intimate in-store event exploring this dramatic story of collecting and conserving family history.
As the weather turns nippy we are pleased to present new fall fashion collections from Cynthia Sands and Urban Masala (Sehar). Cynthia works with heavier fabrics for her market dress as well as traditional indigo. Sehar does an array of fabrics including mudcloth which is perfect for the fall. Shop Fashion.
