This white feathered hat is a contemporary offshoot of the traditional orange hat worn by the Bamileke people during important ceremonies. They were worn atop a beaded elephant mask, the elephant denoting powered and strength. These ceremonies might include the installing of new kings or the visit of important dignitaries from another village.
