This white feathered hat is a contemporary offshoot of the traditional orange hat worn by the Bamileke people during important ceremonies. They were worn atop a beaded elephant mask, the elephant denoting powered and strength.  These ceremonies might include the installing of new kings or the visit of important dignitaries from another village.

As a result of  their beauty and intricacy,  they have now become home decor items and been featured in various style magazines.  They are dyed in many colors such as purple, yellow, turquoise. etc.  They cone with a string for hanging from a wall.
